Changes....

In just a matter of weeks/days/hours/seconds so much can change. I guess that is a part of growing up. If you choose to be stagnant and refused to move along with time, you might as well be dead. For the past one year I’ve undergone a lot of changes, which came rapidly. From getting married, being pregnant soon after, giving birth to Ryan and now being a mother, I’m forced to take on new responsibilities with each new role I have.

The thing about change is not everyone can accept it. It’s quite weird, they can see the changes taking place but they can’t accept it. Take for example: Hanging out. I’m not one of those people who don’t socialize just because I have a baby. I do go out but there’s some restrain. You can’t expect me to go out till late night, doing god knows what, with god knows who. It is not that I no longer know how to have fun because I’m married with a baby, is just that nowadays my definition of FUN may differ from what it used to be.

Technically, even though I’m always a part of a “group” back in school, university etc, I’ve always chosen to do my own things. I don’t do something just because everyone is doing it. Despite hearing my own friends gossiping behind my back( I think it was “Cuba tunjuk baik” "Rasa Cool" "Thinks she's better than us") for not wanting to be a part of something they are doing, be it choosing a different elective class, dressing or smoking, drinking etc I’ve never cared (or maybe I do care but I don’t let it bother me much)

I’ve come to accept very early on that you can’t go along with people just for the sake of it, because when things go wrong they won’t necessary be there. Some may be unintentional due to surrounding circumstances but some people would bail on you when the going gets tough. I know that, I have to admit if it was a choice of saving my own ass and another person, of course I would choose to ME. It’s only human.

However, I try not to judge people on their decision indiscriminately. I won’t say I’ll never judge because I judge people on a daily basis. I can’t help it. It’s the way you make assessment on things, but I try not to be judgmental and have certain preconceived notion on how things are supposed to be. Honestly, I’ve seen enough to know that things are rarely black or white. I’m as liberal as my religion allow me to be and I still hold true to that belief now (albeit with a bit more experience and knowledge)

So please don’t give me the crap that I’ve changed, malas nak layan people because I’m married(thinks I'm more superior) and being a mother makes me boring etc. I’m like this because I CHOOSE to be. I refused to be a part of something because you want me to be. On being a good friend, I think you should UNDERSTAND by now that if you need me you can call, email, sms, FB message, Tweet, write a letter etc. You can’t expect me to know something is wrong if you don’t tell me about it. Contrary to what you may think I am not a psychic. You KNOW I’m not the type that will go around and call to see if something is wrong with you.

I know not everything revolves around me, but it does not revolve around you too. Things change and a good friend will embrace that instead of insisting that thing should stay the same like it was 5, 10, 15 years ago.

Haha suddenly this post became so panjang and melalut :) Speaking of changes Lan, Ryan and I will be undergoing a HUGE change soon. Will blog more on it when everything is in order. A lot of challenges ahead but insyallah we will work on it one step at a time. I’m so excited but super scared at the same time. Ya Allah permudahkanlah urusan ku ini. Amin

Happy Mother's Day :)

*Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never been puked on.
Pooped on. Chewed on. Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body..
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom

*Extracted from an email :)

To all the beautiful mummies out there,
You guys are AWESOME :)
Wishing you a very Happy Mother's Day

To my mummy...
Now I know how much pain you have to go through giving birth to me
and all the sacrifices, heartache raising me
I appreciate you so much more...
Love you mummy...

D.I.Y Part 1

I drop by Whimsical Articles, Bangsar Village for this DIY Iron-on personalized t-shirt for Mr.Ryan.You can choose the t-shirt in your preferred colour/size, various iron on designs and the name, sayings or initial to be stitched on the t-shirt.

I think it made for a lovely gift for love ones due to its personal touches. My sister and I are planning on getting another personalize romper for a friend's baby. The price is also quite reasonable. If you are of the talented kind, you can also purchase the t-shirt and iron on patches and sew the initial/name yourself.

I'm even thinking of making one for myself and hubby to match Ryan's t-shirt :)

I choose this adorable red car with the word "Ryan" stitched on the front part of the t-shirt

The iron on that i choose for my baby is double sided. This is the design for the back of the shirt. The plate number is 123 coincidentally the 3 end digits to Ryan's Mykids I.D card :)

How to feed a baby....

I don't function well on Monday :(

To stop myself from squeezing my eyeballs out of its sockets, I decided to do a bit of research on baby feeding. I'm planning to feed Ryan solid food soon (Maybe after his 5 months checkup or later depending on the doctor's feedback). So I reckoned a lot of "research" must be conducted to ensure smooth first feeding experience :)

How do you know that the baby is ready for solid food? (source babycenter.com)

- Head control. Your baby needs to be able to keep his head in a steady, upright position CHECK
- Losing the "extrusion reflex." To keep solid food in his mouth and then swallow it, your baby needs to stop using his tongue to push food out of his mouth. Hmm how can you tell?
- Sitting well when supported. Even if he's not quite ready for a highchair, your baby needs to be able to sit upright to swallow well. CHECK
- Chewing motions. Your baby's mouth and tongue develop in sync with his digestive system. To start solids, he should be able to move food to the back of his mouth and swallow. As he learns to swallow efficiently, you may notice less drooling — though if your baby's teething, you might still see a lot of drool. Errkk?
- Significant weight gain. Most babies are ready to eat solids when they've doubled their birth weight (or weigh about 15 pounds) and are at least 4 months old. CHECK
- Growing appetite. He seems hungry — even with eight to ten feedings of breast milk or formula a day. CHECK
- Curiosity about what you're eating. Your baby may begin eyeing your bowl of rice or reaching for a forkful of fettuccine as it travels from your plate to your mouth. Ryan is always curious over everything I do lah.

What do you need to feed your baby?

1. A cook book.

I so want these Annabel Karmel books, but it's not available in MPH. Would need to wait till June for delivery. Will probably order it online if they don't have the book in Borders, Popular or Times. Why do I want the book? They have great recipes for babies and toddlers, which is not confined to normal and bland baby food recipes (suggestion includes using spices, curries etc) in baby food so that they won't become picky eaters later on. They even have recipes for baby pasta *yummy* (The recipes are in her website but I don't want to print/photostat, I want the book ;p)

2. A food processor

I have my eyes on this Philips Avent Baby Food Processor, which come with containers to freeze the food. It is even on 20% sale in Parkson.

3. Supplementary Food choices?

I think once I get the go ahead from Doctor Sofia, I will probably be feeding Ryan with the Farley Rusk Biscuits + milk and a week later graduate to rice cereal with milk. After that I'm planning to prepare Ryan's food and freeze some on the days that I'm too busy to cook.I know you can get the food in the jars but my mum is kind of against some of the imported baby food (esp those in a jar) because of the "halal" issues. Malas nak argue because she may have a point :p heheh and some of the food may contain preservatives so Lan and I decided to keep those to the minimum (I won't say I'll NEVER use it because I may end up eating my own word hehe)

4.Feeding Set

I will just get one of the cute ones from JJ or Parkson. I like the idea of Thomas the Train or Sesame Street. Please don't suggest Barney because I really hate that stupid purple dinosaur (sorry Kakak ;p) I just find him annoying so I rather not "start" Ryan on any Barney craze. May end up punching someone if I have to listen to him all the time (haha)

Wondering wondering....

Vulli The Giraffe Teether.
This supposedly "french" giraffe garnered a lot of great reviews, I saw the likes of Harlow (anak Nicole Richie) and Violet Affleck (Anak Ben Affleck and Jennifer Gardner) playing with it, but it's blardy expensive so I'm not sure if it is worth it. Hmmm pelik kan? Looks like a doggie chew toy :)
I want to go home to cheeky cheeks... miss him so much today....
