Our Cuti-Cuti Malaysia : Johor Adventure

OMG I can't believe that it is already end of November 2014. In just a blink of an eye it will be 2015. So much happened and I have yet to find the time to sit down and properly blog about it, the usual year end work rush, I guess :)

Anyway I will start with our Q4 family holiday. The initial plan was for us  to go to Penang but with the bad weather and last minute changes to our plans, we decided to visit Johor. Johor is the best choice for the kids as there's plenty of things to do and visit and the 3.5 hours drive there won't drive Lan and I nuts :p

No drive to Johor would be completed without a visit to JPO. We got my sister a new Coach bag for her birthday (yes I'm awesome) and we did some shopping for the kids and my parents. Lan also bought me a new bag from MK which I love because it is HUGE :) All in all a satisfactory visit for this lil' old shopaholic...

We stayed in Doubletree by Hilton. Loved the location of the hotel which was right smack in the city. We really enjoyed our stay in the hotel and would definitely come back. For full review: Press Me

The next day we went to Legoland and Legoland Waterpark. This is our first visit to the waterpark and we loved it as much as the theme park (maybe a bit more hehe). We were in the waterpark for 3 hours and went on to spend another 5 hours at the theme park. It was so much fun but my legs were like jelly at the end of the day after all that walking :) The most important thing is the kids had fun and since Iman and Ranya is older we managed to do a lot more as compared to our previous two visits. For more pictures and review of Legoland Waterland : Press Me

Our final destination on our weekend "jalan-jalan" list is to visit the Angry Bird Activity Park in Komtar JBCC. The kids had fun despite the time limit imposed by the park. The activities are a bit different as we have yet to see it in other activity parks in Malaysia. So it is worth the visit if you're around the area. More information on the park : Press Me

At the end of the day, what I cherish most about our weekend break is not the places we've been or things we bought but the gorgeous memories we get to have of each other. Hopefully Ryan, Iman and Ranya had as much fun as I did. Love love all my babies so very very much. Alhamdullilah, thank you Allah for another day with them :)

Ryan's Talent Day 2014

It is that time of the year again where mummy will go teary eyed while watching her little boy perform so confidently on stage :)

Alhamdulliah we managed to attend Tadika Ceria Az-Zahra's Aqua Ceria Talent and Convocation day on the 26 October 2014 @ Crystal Crown Hotel, Klang, where Ryan performed twice. First singing "Nasyid Nabi Yusof and Ikan Nun" for his Tahfiz class and later dancing to "Sailor and the Sea". Ryan looked so happy performing and being in the limelight, so that's good. He's been trying to keep his performance a secret for months now, and looked so satisfied that he managed to keep Lan and I in the dark about his routines.

The deco on the stage, too cute right :)

Pics from my new compact camera, not bad, huh?

Boys will be boys, tengah-tengah perform pun sempat goof around with  his friends

Ok iklan tak berbayar kejap, I love my new Zawara Alicia Sequin Jubah, so comfy and the cut is so flattering. I'm so itching to buy another one in a different colour.

Anywayyyyyy, the kindergarten had encouraged parents and family to come with sea inspired headgear, there's even a special prize for the winners. Too bad we didn't win :p

Cool, huh? I made this out of felt. Lan grudgingly wore them for like 3 seconds and now it is an addition to the kids costume collection.

Oooooo....We were given the VVIP seats, WHY VVIP???

It is because......

Muhammad Ryan Daniel was awarded the Anugerah Mutiara Harapan. It is an overall award for 5 years old showing the most development for the year, looking at qualities like character development, communication skills, manners, academics etc. Alhamdullilah, for the recognition :) I think his teachers did take into account Ryan speech issues and his hard work in trying to overcome it. So awesome that despite all that, he has grown to be such a confident and delightful young man. Mummy is super proud of you abang. I hope that you'll continue to grow to be such a fine example to your little sisters... Alhamdullilah Alhamdullilah Alhamdullilah.....

Ryan with his class teacher, Teacher Ana. Thank you for helping him, teaching him new skills and knowledge this year :) Ryan is so lucky to have you.

The pic on the right is of Ryan and Mama Ati one of his caretaker in Taska. Hehehe I was so worried last year when we wanted to enrol Ryan in early. I was telling Mama Ati that I can't imagine if he'll survived going the whole day without bottle, diapers PLUS his major pelatness.. Mama Ati assured me he'll be alright and alhamdullilah she's right. I owe it to his caretakers for assisting us with his potty training and weaning him off the bottle...

We're so lucky to have found such a good kindergarten for Ryan and inshaallah the twins next year. With all the news about horrible babysitter and kindy in the media, you can't help but feel worried having to leave your kids with strangers all day. Thank god we've found a school that is ikhlas in educating and taking care of my ahli syurga.

Sunshiny Day.....

I find one of the easiest ways to turn my mood around is to wear bright colours. Sometimes when we're in a bad mood, we'll have this tendency to reach out for the darkest gloomiest outfit in our closet. I was reading somewhere that wearing dark outfits when you're already in a "state" can further dampen our mood throughout the whole day. So ask yourself why would you want to stay in a rut???

I love donning the colour yellow, especially if I'm in one of my moods. I will pair the outfit with black or white to tone it down a little. For such an attention grabbing colour I'll choose heavier textures such as wool for structure or soft chiffon for the flow. I'll also stay clear from shiny textures such as satin or silk as it tends to make me look heavier. I guess if you're stick thin go for it :p

Who other turn to other than my style icon Blair Waldorf ( I know Gossip Girls, is so 2009 but awesome style stays forever :p)

I was browsing for a new yellow blazer for myself, when  I came across several adorable winter outfits for little girls.  I don't know why but the sight of little girls in winter wear would usually increase their cuteness factor by tenfolds.

Since we're in Malaysia we have no use for cute little pea coats and fur vest so there's no good reason for me to purchase any. Even if we're going to a cold country anytime in the near future (wishing is free :p) these coats are not cheap (at least not the ones that I like la) spending RM300 each on something that the twins will wear just for a few days is all kinda stupid....

Maybe I should make monthly trips to Snow World to justify buying these outfits for Iman and Ranya. Excuse the craziness, It's a Monday. I'm always a bit crazy (er) on a Monday hehehe

The day I lost my Ienanononi....

Last weekend was supposed to be a relaxing and happy week. It started fine and I was having a super relaxing Sunday constructing a fighter jet LEGO with Ryan when I received THE PHONE CALL. I usually keep my handphone nearby but for some reason last Sunday it was left inside my handbag, I guess I was too preoccupied playing with the Lego I didn’t even hear the constant ringing. When I finally retrieved my phone I saw three missed calls from Iylia. It was weird but I didn’t think much about it as Iena is known for using her husband phone to call me. I didn’t know why but my first thought was “hmmm they must be nearby and nak datang beraya”

I can’t be further from the truth….

I called Iylia back and the first thing I heard after saying Hello was “Farrr, Iena dah takde Far”. I was shocked and my mind went blank for a while, a million thought went through my head, the first being, “but we were all just chatting with each other via Whatsapp yesterday”. I can’t remember my full conversation with Iylia but I remembered promising him that I will relay the dreadful news to the rest of my girlfriends.

The first challenge of the day was making the phone calls, it would have been easier and faster to do it via our chat group but it wouldn’t be right. Do you know how difficult it was to keep myself composed and to keep on repeating “Girls, Iena is no longer with us” and sharing with them the little information that I had when all I wanted to do was go to my room, bury my head in the pillow and cry…

The rest of the day went in a blur, we initially thought that the funeral would be done the next morning since it was already 4pm and no official arrangement has been made. I was discussing with the girls and initially thought we would wait for further news but for some reason I feel tak sedap hati and the waiting was driving me nuts so I called Iylia back to ask for his permission to join him in Hospital Putrajaya.

Alhamdullilah it was the best decision I made that day. Turned out that Iena’s family managed to make the burial plans on the same night and being at there at the  hospital meant that we got to see, kiss and send my darling friend off to her final resting place for the last time…

Iena was my first friend in UiTM. To me our meeting was one of Allah best plans because through our first conversation we found out that we shared a common “interest”, knowing me and my reservations for strangers and small talks, I wouldn’t have opened up to her the way I did, if it was not for that small detail. We spent the whole night gabbing away nonsense and we became really good friends after when we were grouped into the same class for matriculation.

Our friendship have its ups and down, especially because of differing personality. Iena is a drama queen, whereas I am more of a drama but hati batu queen (haha) but Alhamdullilah we managed to avoid major conflicts throughout our 13-14 years of friendship and accepted each other quirks and loved each other for it, I realized I am one of the few people that is allowed to really state my views to her plainly (sometimes rather harshly)  and without fear of her retaliation and she’s the only person that gets away with raiding my makeup bag and headband collection declaring my things as hers without batting an eyelash.

We went through a lot together and supported each other through different phases of our life. We both transitioned from being simple teens to being a wife and into motherhood around the same time. It breaks my heart that baby Asif who is only 16 months old would need to grow up not knowing her awesome mother. I know Iena considers Asif as one of her greatest achievements, her pride and joy and she is so proud of his every move and action. She loved him with all her heart and sadly now the duty to raise him would fall single handedly on Iylia.

I pray that Iylia would find the strength to raise Asif alone and go through his life without Iena in it. They were one of my favorite couples, so in love and dedicated to each other, they had made lots of plans together, but alas Allah is the best planner and as a muslim I know I have to redha.

I remembered my conversation with Iena late last year when she told me that sometimes she feels isolated because she’s not able to join us often during our group gatherings. She was on a pity party mode that day and told me that she don’t think we will even miss her if she’s not around. I recalled being annoyed with her and told her to stop being silly and to just give us a call if she misses us so much in my usual sarky manner. I do not know if it was because of that or is it because of some other reason but Iena has been extra active in organizing dinners and lunches of late.

I thank Allah for all the extra time that I get to spend with her this year. Hopefully she’ll be able to look down from the beautiful place she is in at the moment and see the huge gap that she left us and look at all these people who is currently missing her so very very much. I wish so hard that I can tell her “I TOLD YOU SO!!!” but I know it is impossible for now.

I will miss you, Ienanononi and to tell you the truth I am quite messed up at the moment knowing that you’re no longer around. If you’re here you’ll probably crack some stupid and annoying joke which I will casually dismiss and which will annoy you in return. I know both of us selalu ego tak nak mengaku our feelings towards each other but deep down we know...

Despite my lack of comments, posting, updates on social media about losing you as compared to some of our other girlfriends, do know that I love you very very much and you mean the world to me. InshaAllah we will meet each other again one day, in the meantime, I will do my best to keep an eye on Iylia and Asif for you and be there for them if they need and want me to be. You just rest well my dear friend…

Iman and Ranya takes kindy...

Rushing to post these pictures of Iman and Ranya I got from their "school" FB page. Learned a very painful lesson last weekend when all my pics from my hp was accidentally deleted because my SD card became corrupted *cries* Thank god I had saved a bunch of pictures from our recent activities into my office laptop last week.

Currently, posting my pics on my blog seems to be the safest way to store pics especially since we hardly make hard copies of pictures anymore. Sadly on the same day my hp decided to go crazy, I had to also bid farewell to my personal laptop of 8 years. Hopefully I will manage to retrieve the pictures in the laptop hard drive soon :( Yes, it is in fact a series of  unfortunate events *sigh* Good things to come? Hopefully *inshaAllah*

Anyway, check out the following pics of the twinnies school activities for the year 2014.

Hari Raya 2014 Celebration

The twins are the one in pink jubah with pink hairband. Short of circling their heads, I really don't know how to make their presence in this picture stand out hehe

Everyday school and Arts & Craft Activities

Iman and Ranya rarely sits together during class activities, I wonder if the teachers consciously separates them or if it was their own personal choice. Oh well, whatever makes you happy my little darlings

3 more months before they move to big girl school to joing Abang Ryan. Praying for the best hehe *Amin*

Picky Picky....

I get a lot of people asking me about tips on dealing with picky eaters. I am by no means an expert but my edge on this topic is not merely based on my experience dealing with Ryan but I'm actually speaking from my personal experience as a recovering picky eater.

Ryan was a good eater until he turned one. Things changed drastically after he was hospitalized for the second time. Going for physio to drain out the phlegm and mucus at one year old, has a bigger impact on him as compared to the first treatment when he was 7 months old. I guess he can remember clearly the traumatic experience of tubes being shoved down his throat since he's older.

After that I detect a change in his feeding pattern. He's more choosy and refuses to eat vegetables and meat (he'll only eat eggs, carrots and potatoes) and will only eat plain or fried rice and some pasta. Since he have dinner at my parents who enabled him, and I did not really interfere at that time because I was busy with my night classes and  the arrival of his twin sisters, he continued with this feeding pattern until he's about 3 years old.

Once we've gotten pass the hecticness with the twins being older, I've managed to really sit down and analyze the issue with Ryan. In terms of preference my boy actually prefers stronger tasting food (e.g. durian, tomyam, oranges etc) so all the bland food that we were previously feeding him, does nothing to increase his appetite. The second mistake was actually listening to him when he says that he do not like a food without even trying it. Thirdly was making a huge production during mealtimes forcing him to eat (this is more my mum than me)

Ok parents drill this into your head...
(1)  NAGGING KILLS APPETITE
(2) The child will eat when the child is hungry

Again let me stress this out. I am speaking based on my own personal experience. When I was 5-12 my basic food everyday is my arwah Wan Nasi Goreng for breakfast, rice, kicap and fried fish (only ikan selar kuning ok) for lunch and 1-2 slices of bread for dinner. I was a freaking skinny kid (albeit a very healthy and active one)  I introduced a bit of variety into my meals when I was in High School but was still extremely selective and only grew out of the food bubble when I stepped into Uni. You want to know what made me changed?

It is because I DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE. There is no Mummy or Wan to cook food the way I like it. So either I starve or live on a diet of instant noodle everyday, I had no choice but to step out of my comfort zone. Most of my friends are quite adventurous foodies (or at least normal by my standard), so it made me more open to trying out small quantities of food of their plate (less scary option than ordering an entire plate of "alien" food), this in turn expanded my choices and allowed me to make a more informed decision between food I actually like/hate/initially thought i hate but end of liking (like ikan keli for instance)

So keeping all this in mind, I introduced new dishes to Ryan in a more subtle manner. Sometimes I will cooked a particular dish for myself and invite him to try a bite and assure him that he's allowed to (politely) spit it out if he don't like the taste. Even though he may not try or like it at first, I will continuously offer the same food/fruits/vege to him. If he still resist the taste after 5-6 tries I will just move on and offer something else because I take it that he is naturally not attracted to the taste (I'm positively allergic to the taste of bean sprouts, cucumber and honey dew - will literally will gag it out and I'm 31 haha ). But NEVER underestimate the wonders of persistence because I've managed to get Ryan to eat roast beef (which he won't even touch before) and spinach after a few tries.

Another thing is DO NOT provide options all the time. Example cooking two types of fried rice (1) normal with all the works (2) kosong with just kicap for the picky kid. The signal you're sending is "I do not need to try new food because mummy will always provide me with the dish that I WANT". Persuade your child to try the food and allow him to weed out unwanted meat/veges from the dish. What do you got to lose? He'll try it and not like it (so it will be status quo) OR he'll try it and decide "hey this is not bad at all".

Don't be a hypocrite. If you yourself do not eat vegetable and fruits, don't membebel and paksa your kid to eat it. Lead by example. In my house, I only buy vegetable/fruits that I know I will eat, screw variety, if you only like mangoes, carrots and broccoli than by all means buy and eat it everyday if you want . Don't feel the need to compel the household to 3 types of exotic vegetables that you personally don't like but FORCED it upon your kid.

If your kids is forever "kenyang" try minimizing snacks or don't allow snack so close to mealtimes. We had this problem earlier this year when my mum complained that Ryan and the twins refused dinner. The root of the problem is my  parents will feed them "roti cream" at around 4.30 when they come back from school. I advised my parents to stop buying the bread (and to ignore their crying) and alhamdullilah they're  asking for second (even thirds) serving of food  during dinner now.

Finally, be patient and relaxed, mummy!! Like I mentioned earlier the child will eat when the child is hungry. Don't worry so much about variety, just ensure that they get benefit from all the food groups. If it is any consolation I survived on kicap, fried fish/chicken, carrots and junk food all through my early adulthood (the health consciousness and awareness is recently acquired) and I turned out ok :p Alhamdullilah I'm healthy, active and quite smart (despite the lack of greens) hahahah

Do make food fun and attractive :) Anyway see the green dip in the middle? That is basil, spinach, sour cream and a squirt of mayo. No vege taste but with all the goodness and nutrients...

Yes the noodle is green because it is "spinach noodle". You can find it in most health store and it taste good. The menu above consist of me tossing the noodle into a bit of garlic, spring onions, olive oil and grilled salmon. Walla a quick, healthy and yummy dish (Iman ate this without blinking)

Another option to introduce vegetable into your child's meal is through juicing. Try adding mangoes, orange and spinach together or try the various combinations available online. They won't even know what hit them. I've made this myself or if you're lazy you can buy organic and freshly pressed juice from supermarket or online (just make sure there's no sugar or preservatives added)

I find it easier to get them to eat all food groups when it is all mixed into one dish rather than visible dishes where you can see individual veges + protein and carbs. For example this dish consist of salmon, spinach, cheese, pasta, fresh tomatoes and garlic.

Another awesome way to incorporate veges into food is by infusing meat in vegetable stocks. Not only would your dish taste better, you would also benefit from the nutrients from the vegetables.

Hope this helps... in the meantime.. chill yo!!!

The one on the super blessed Merdeka Day weekend

One of the biggest gripe of a working mum is the minimal time we get to spend with our children. We're gone the whole day working and is only able to spend a few hours a day with our precious babies. As much as I look forwards to the weekends, it is not that I'm able to spend 24/7 with my children as we still have to split the hours between errands, housework, visiting etc.

Long weekends is the best as you're able to work in extra activities that would not be possible otherwise. Anyway I had an awesome time *alhamdullilah* during the long Merdeka Day weekend :)

30 August 2014 (Merdeka Day Eve)

We wanted to drop by Setia City Mall to get some shopping done but parking was full due to some concert, so we decided to have our dinner elsewhere. So cool that they have independent Pizza Hut buildings (and other fast food joints) conveniently situated in Setia Alam

31 August 2014 : Merdeka Day!!!

My babies having fun in Kidz Paradise. Press Me for review :)

Later in the evening we had a picnic in the backyard. I bought some yummy Elmo cupcakes for the munchkins to enjoy for tea.

Later we set up the sprinkler for some water fun. We accidentally burst the sprinkler tubes due to high water pressure. Hopefully the cobbler can patch the tube up with rubber patches :(

1 September 2014: KL Bird Park

I've been wanting to visit the Bird Park since last year but haven't managed to find the appropriate time. Since we had no other planned activity for the day, I woke Lan up super early and coaxed him to make the trip. Alhamdullilah, one trip to crossed from my "travel/activity list". Zoo Melaka next *inshaAllah*

Anyway for review of the KL Bird Park : Press Me!!!

It was such a blessed and fulfilling weekend. Alhamdullilah...Alhamdullilah...Alhamdullilah.
Looking forward to more beautiful moments with my family *inshaAllah*
